Just joined and loving it already. I have a question. Would like to know who made the yarn bowl picture above. I LOVE IT! I usually wind my yarn into balls and use a large kitchen bowl to keep it in. Great to keep the yarn from rolling all over the floor. But your bowl is great! I would be proud to display my yarns in it. Would like to know if there is a copywrite on it. I would like to make some for myself and friends.
I agree with Margie. Here’s an idea. Use a screen backing and you can hang real earrings and pins from it without taking a chance of stretching your knit work. I’m gonna get busy making one right now!!
The screen idea for the jewelry frame is awesome. I was wondering how I’d make sure the yarn didn’t pull.
The yarn bowl came from a local art fair here in Greensboro, NC. I’d never heard of them before either but I did an Etsy search for “yarn bowl” and lots of beautiful results come up. I doubt there is a copyright on the design.
Wow you should go to interweave knits website. They have lots of summer knitting projects. And cotton is not the only summer appropriate fiber out ther. There’s also hemp, and silk, and bamboo, and……
That stuff you got up there is for wash cloths. But have fun! And knit whatever you want sitting by the pool.
Love the frame…oooo the ideas- one for each grandchild to set off their grandmother’s jewelry in memory of her and her love for pins…and the donut is priceless!!! The necklace is sweetly reminiscent of twist necklaces…and would be stunning in various shades. Simply great work and ideas. So glad I clicked on this and stayed a while. Thank you.
Dishrags are the only thing I knit in the summer! You already have the right yarn. The pattern I use is so simple, after a row or two, it’s committed to memory (again) and I don’t even need a pattern with me. They are a quick knit and so useful!!
I think I’ll churn out a few dishcloths too. They do look simple enough. Those would be good to knit while traveling since they are small and you can memorize the pattern.
I adore the jewelry frame and I love your blog!!! I have a new jewelry blog and I’m going to start a list of blogs I like and I’m going to list yours. What a great blog for women to read! Love, love, love it!!!
Love the projects–especially the jewelery frame and the necklace…though they will have to wait until I learn to knit or find crochet alternatives, lol! And I love that bowl!!
I love working with cotton yarn. Have you tried making dishcloths or dishtowels yet? SOOO easy and very useful. I make lots of them to give for gifts. They are always well received and I get asked for MORE!
I love the knitted photo frame….you have totally inspired me to make one for my friend, as she has everything, but she does love her shiny ear jewels, and this would be a perfect place for them to hang them!
I saw a great idea for that knit jewelry frame in an earlier comment by Garnie Bethea. “Use a screen backing and you can hang earrings and pins from it without taking a chance of stretching your knit work.”
Now THAT’S a donut I could love. ;) LOL! Can’t eat that stuff anymore … I know VERY SAD! Flirting with the 80’s? You must be south of Washington State. :)
Cute nickname. I taught myself how to knit 2 years ago using YouTube and Google searches. It wasn’t as hard as it seemed. Once I learned how to read a pattern, I was golden.
Oh wow, so wonderful!! I love them, I am still working on a scarf I had intended to finish this winter just gone… I love these ideas…. one dayn I hope to reach this standard… we have a book with soma AMAZING tea cozy patterns in! :] xx
Scarves are the worst. They are deceivingly easy but sooooo long! haha I get bored and abandon scarves all the time. You’ve intrigued me with the tea cozies. I don’t need one but I want to make one anyway. ;)
Congrats on Freshly Pressed!! Love your knitting project, and as a knitter myself it is fun to use other fibers. I enjoy working with cotton, and now bamboo. Next up for me to try is yarn made from sugarcane!! We’ll see how it goes…
I don’t think it was meant as a chew toy…but if made with washable cotton yarn and I omit the button eyes, I think bunny nuggets will make perfect chew toys.
I love your blog! I am an avid knitter… I taught my husband and our 3 girls all how to knit last Thanksgiving and our oldest’s roommate from college! Wait until I share your donut with them – it is lovely!!!! Thanks for sharing.
Fun post! I just hopped over to Ravelry to queue the necklace. I know just what yarn I’ll use–the leftover silk charcoal Alchemy, perhaps paired with something else. And I may have to queue the donut, too. That’d make a great quick preschooler birthday present!
I was just talking to my mother about making those doughnuts for a child’s present. I’m also toying with the notion of adding a squeaker for my puppies…
Will do. I’m about 60% done with my tote now. I’d love to see your recycled t-shirt necklace too. I knit a bath mat out of an old jersey dress of mine once. It was a really fun project.
I have crocheted for years, have newly come to knitting, and like you dont want to knit heavy things to knit in the summer, I have found a few things on http://cache.lionbrand.com/
There are more than a few ideas on this site for every knitter or crochet newby up to a pro.
You obviously have more skill than I have but I hope to learn to be better.
Wow, I really like the jewelry frame and the necklace. I’ll have to see how beginner friendly those patterns are. Though I can always add them to my list for the future!
I started knitting 2 years ago. I was stuck on basic scarves for the whole first year. Then, as soon as I figured out how to read a pattern, I have been able to do anything I wanted. Just takes patience.
I LOVE it! Thanks for sharing all of those patterns, I will totally try some of them out, especially the bunny, it’s just to adorable!
I know the feeling, I cant stand the thought of knitting wool in summer either. I usually switch over to crochet when summertime comes, but this year I will follow your great example, and just switch yarn! Fabolous!
I normally end up doing little table cloths, but bikinis are a hit too :) Little summer dresses for my girl also :)
If you check out this link I bet you can find something :) They have an awesome video tut section for crochet ;) http://garnstudio.com/lang/en/category_oversikt.php?kat=Crochet
I wish that was my doughnut. That is a photo from the pattern on Ravelry. However, with the right colors and beads, I’m optimistic mine will look the same. :)
Finally! Nice to see something really interesting on Fresh Pressed lol! I use that yarn to knit dishcloths, works great for that, but be warned, the bright colours aren’t colour fast, at least not in hot water. I tend to soak new cloths in hand hot water to get the excess dye out of them, after that they’re fine. Love your ideas for summer knits, especially that necklace, it’s stunning.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Freshly Pressed knitting post now that you mention it. :) Thanks for the tip about the colors! I’ll make sure to soak my projects.
Sweet~ I love the doughnut and bunny the most^^ is knitting that hard to learn and do? Which would be easier cause I know how to make crochet but only the very basic and I couldn’t learn the next part to connect them or such and know nothing about knitting so … is it crochet or knitting… ??
I chose knitting only because I’d learned a little as a child. I’ve heard people say crochet is faster but I personally like knitting patterns better. Either way, it’s not very hard to learn. I taught myself to knit by watching YouTube videos and looking up answers to my knitting questions on Google. Now I’m trying to learn crochet the same way and it’s just as fun. Give it a try and good luck!
Thanks~ Actually I only know in crochet is the chain…
I’ll try them both… but first I want to know more about crochet because…
I learned crochet when I was in kinder when my mother was making one because it was thought to them during their time, you won’t graduate the sixth grade if you don’t learn it… but now it’s very different, no knitting, crochet nor cross stitch… It’s been about seven years since I learn the chain and I learned it before my older sister does but now… she’s far better…
Mommy is very busy so she couldn’t teach me the next step but she said that I should practice using the hook because I’m only good at it by hand, I am pissed by using the hook…
My technique is crochet and sewing combined… what I mean is I make chains using yarns then I sew them together^^… but I want to learn other patterns…
I would have loved learning these skills in school. There weren’t many non-academic courses available for me. Too bad.
I can only do the chain stitch in crochet as well. There are so many crochet stitches to learn that it sometimes discourages me too. Hopefully we can both figure it out! :)
well yeah, you’re right… and I just learned new stitches^^~
and now I know how to do the single, double and trebble^^ just having a hard time to do double and trebble… it won’t go through the loop -_-… but I can do the single good enough~
They’re just the same but the trebble is the fastest way to do your project…
OMG! That pin cushion/donut is the *cutest* thing I have ever seen!!! I want to go on a hunt for three today — one for me, one for my sister and one for my mom! How adorable!!!
I want to make a bowlful of knit doughnuts and just display it on my coffee table. :) I just checked out your blog and I love it! I originally wanted to start a food blog but didn’t have enough to say. Yours rocks.
I wish I could take credit but that image is from Ravelry. It’s a pattern that I plan to complete this summer. I think I will make it mint and cream colored.
I love your blog! I am an avid knitter… I taught my husband and our 3 girls all how to knit last Thanksgiving and our oldest’s roommate from college! Wait until I share your donut with them – it is lovely!!!! Thanks for sharing.
Love it! Cannot wait to begin learning this skill.
Oh my gosh…that doughnut is so AWESOME!
Your post has revealed one thing to me: I suck at being creative. :(
Fun stuff — congrats on the Freshly Pressed nod!
Thanks for the congrats. I’m beyond psyched to be freshly pressed! Never would have thought.
AMAZING :)
great. I love the Doughnut. And make sure to label it “keep out of children” you know what I mean?
:)
wow, that doughnut looks fantastic, almost good enough to eat, if not a little fluffy :)
I know! I just need to find those little beads used for sprinkles. Love those.
I like the Jewelry Frame. My daughter makes hand made beads and a frame like this would be a nice way to display the necklaces she has given me.
Definitely. I had to pass that pattern onto a friend of mine who makes jewelry as well.
The doughnut and necklace are stunning!
I love the knitted necklace! What a cool idea! I need to learn how to knit.
YouTube taught me. It’s easier than you think. :)
love that necklace! very unique but would make a killer accessory…that I could make myself!
Just joined and loving it already. I have a question. Would like to know who made the yarn bowl picture above. I LOVE IT! I usually wind my yarn into balls and use a large kitchen bowl to keep it in. Thanks for following my blog!
These are great projects. I wonder if a total clutz at knitting like myself could do them? Congrats on being freshly pressed.
I’m sure you could. Google and YouTube help my knitting tremendously! Thanks for the congrats. :)
Love the knitted necklace and doughnut! Congrats on making FP!
Thanks!
I love bamboo yarn. So soft. I’ll definitely check out interweave knits. Thanks for the tip!
I never even thought of knitting a necklace!?!? How cool! I love your summer colours… like some fabulous summer sherbert!
Your stuff is the BOMB! Wow. Nicely done, I love love love the donut!!!! Congrats on Freshly Pressed. Easy you say … hmmmm?
Knitting looks so much more difficult than it is. I promise it’s not so bad. ;)
Thank you.
Glad I could pass along some great finds. Thanks for checking out my blog.

Yes, yes , the yarn — but where did you get that fantastic yarn-ball holder? So clever!
The husband found it at a local art fair but search for “yarn bowl” on Etsy for lots of other options.
I cannot knit but always have wanted to learn and admire those who have the skill and patience to do so. I love the knit necklace- how beautiful!
There are so many free knitting tutorials on the web. I just taught myself. You should give it a try!
I adore the jewelry frame and I love your blog!!! I have a new jewelry blog and I’m going to start a list of blogs I like and I’m going to list yours. What a great blog for women to read! Love, love, love it!!!
I really appreciate that. Thanks!
I love knitting! Definitely wanna try out the bunny. So cute.
I love the doughnut and frame :D so cute >.< I want to learn knitting too.
Love the projects–especially the jewelery frame and the necklace…though they will have to wait until I learn to knit or find crochet alternatives, lol! And I love that bowl!!
I just posted some great Etsy listings for yarn bowls: https://simplysjostedt.wordpress.com/2011/05/09/yarn-bowls/
Great seasonal post idea! Now I’m inspired to find a list of summer sewing projects for my sewing blog!
I love your blog. I’m just starting to sew and you have some great ideas for me to check out.
I love the bunny nuggets! Thanks for knitting inspiration. :) Hopefully I’ll have some time this summer to take knitting up as a new hobby.
Ravery has pattern for little chick and monster nuggets too. My dogs will be in heaven!
I love the bunny and donut!
I am an avid knitter myself, and everyone is shocked when I tell them because I am in my teens.
Congrats on being Freshly Pressed!
Thank you. I take my fair share of “Granny” remarks but I love to knit anyway! Who cares how old we are?
I love working with cotton yarn. Have you tried making dishcloths or dishtowels yet? SOOO easy and very useful. I make lots of them to give for gifts. They are always well received and I get asked for MORE!
Do you have any favorite patterns for those? I haven’t knit dishcloths yet.
Looks like you’re already preparing for the winter.
Very creative! Good work!
Now THAT’S a donut I could love. ;) LOL! Can’t eat that stuff anymore … I know VERY SAD! Flirting with the 80’s? You must be south of Washington State. :)
Definitely further South and much further East. I’m in NC and summer starts early in these parts.
Congrats on making FP! I really like the pin cushion!
Thanks. I wonder what else you could use knit doughnuts for…
Whoa! Love that knit necklace!
Bunny looks awesome, like some kind of Pokemon or anime character.
You’re totally right. I didn’t even see that at first. Now I miss Pokemon.
i like the summer colours, bunny nugget, and doughnut!
Very cute knitting! I can knit too but not that well. How did you learn? My fav was the bunny because my nickname is ‘the bunny’ I don’t know why!
:] xx

Congrats on Freshly Pressed!! Love your knitting project, and as a knitter myself it is fun to use other fibers. I enjoy working with cotton, and now bamboo. Next up for me to try is yarn made from sugarcane!! We’ll see how it goes…
Sugarcane? I’ve never heard of that. I’m going to look that up immediately!
I love the “bunny nuggets.” :) Is it a chew toy?
I don’t think it was meant as a chew toy…but if made with washable cotton yarn and I omit the button eyes, I think bunny nuggets will make perfect chew toys.
Really a wonderful creative idea!
Thanks for sharing so many useful ideas for cotton ;)
Thanks. Glad to pass them along!
Very cool and by the way the cute little doughnut does make a perfect pin cushion :) Keep it up
Found you when you were “Fresh Pressed”. LOVE your blog.
Thank you so much. Glad you found me. :)
ommmmmmg how cute :3
awesooome keeep it up ^^
So much on the horizon! Have fun!
I know! My Ravelry queue just keeps getting longer and longer. So much to do.
My wife is gonna love this blog. Today I’ve added another article on my blog also. http://thor27.wordpress.com
I love your blog! I am an avid knitter… I taught my husband and our 3 girls all how to knit last Thanksgiving and our oldest’s roommate from college! Wait until I share your donut with them – it is lovely!!!! Thanks for sharing.
I want to teach my husband so badly! It would help a lot to have two of us working on the Xmas gifts. :) If you make the doughnut, please share!
I will indeed :)
YES!!! A post about knitting on the front page! Awesome colors! I love going to ravelry and surfing the patterns. ^_^
My Ravelry name is Hsjostedt. Add me as a friend!
I love sugar and creme. Favorite brand. The necklace idea is awesome!
I still can’t believe I’d never come across Sugar ‘n Cream before. The colors are amazing.
I love the bunny!
Making the necklace!! I’m going to attempt to make it out of old shredded t-shirts instead of cotton yard for my blog.
Take and post a photo of your finished tote. I would love to see it.
Will do. I’m about 60% done with my tote now. I’d love to see your recycled t-shirt necklace too. I knit a bath mat out of an old jersey dress of mine once. It was a really fun project.
awesome designs
Great patterns! I need some summer knitting, too. I’m in the middle of a felted backpack right now, but can’t wait to start these.
Oh… and I saw you on Freshly pressed.
A felted back pack? I’d love to see that pattern. I’m still too timid to attempt felting even though I’d love a pair of felted slippers.
These designs are amazing. :)
I’ve newly entered the world of crochet. It seems really difficult after learning to knit. I hear it’s much faster though. Is that true?
Wow, I really like the jewelry frame and the necklace. I’ll have to see how beginner friendly those patterns are. Though I can always add them to my list for the future!
I started knitting 2 years ago. I was stuck on basic scarves for the whole first year. Then, as soon as I figured out how to read a pattern, I have been able to do anything I wanted. Just takes patience.
Your work is beautiful……I wish I had kept up with it when I my grandmother taught me! Such a great talent.
Thanks. I’m just lucky there are so many awesome patterns out there for me to choose from!
This is great!!
The knit necklace is cool!
You are so talented! Knitting isn’t my strong side, crocheting is, but one day, I will conquer :)
great knitting work

Fabolous!
What sort of things do you crochet in the summer? I’m just teaching myself crochet now.
I normally end up doing little table cloths, but bikinis are a hit too :) Little summer dresses for my girl also :)
If you check out this link I bet you can find something :) They have an awesome video tut section for crochet ;)

I like the doughnut, awesome!!!Looks like a real one,and more beautiful than a real one.Your knitting skill is so impressive.
I wish that was my doughnut. That is a photo from the pattern on Ravelry. However, with the right colors and beads, I’m optimistic mine will look the same. :)
Wow! they’re absolutely beautiful ;)
Simply amazing work… keep it up.
for have a warm winter
I am loving that doughnut!

really love your knitted necklace – that’s inspired!
I wish I could take credit but that image is from Ravelry. It’s a pattern that I plan to complete this summer. I think I will make it mint and cream colored.
I am loving that doughnut!

I like the Jewelry Frame. My daughter makes hand made beads and a frame like this would be a nice way to display the necklaces she has given me.
If you make this, I’d love to see the finished product complete with your daughter’s hand made items. I’m sure it will be gorgeous.
What cute stuff! I might have to make that bag! I’ve wanted to make one for years!
Great stuff! It is really cute! Thank you for your sharing!
I love your blog! I am an avid knitter… I taught my husband and our 3 girls all how to knit last Thanksgiving and our oldest’s roommate from college! Wait until I share your donut with them – it is lovely!!!! Thanks for sharing.
